Santos Increases Chances of Série A Promotion After Thrilling Victory

After a 3-2 victory over Mirassol on Saturday (12), Santos boosted their chances of returning to Série A, Brazil’s top football league. The match took place at Vila Belmiro, where the win pushed Santos back to the top of the Série B standings, significantly increasing their chances of promotion. With 56 points, they surpassed Novorizontino, who now has 54 points. According to recent estimates, Santos now has an impressive 93.4% chance of returning to Série A.

Strong Form Boosts Santos’ Série A Hopes

This latest victory was crucial for Santos, not only in terms of points but also momentum. Currently, with 31 rounds played, Santos has scored 46 goals, making them the second-highest-scoring team in Série B, just two goals behind Ceará. Midfielder Giuliano is Santos’ top scorer with nine goals this season, trailing only Guarani’s Caio Dantas, who has 11 goals. Defensively, Santos has also been solid, conceding just 25 goals, which ranks them among the best in the league.

Santos’ form in the last 10 rounds has been strong, with five wins, four draws, and only one loss. This performance ranks them as the third-best team over this stretch, trailing only Sport and Ceará.

According to statistics from a study conducted by the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Santos has a 93.4% chance of securing promotion to Série A. Other teams with strong chances include Novorizontino (81.7%) and Sport (90.6%), with Sport having a slight advantage due to one game in hand. Mirassol and Vila Nova also remain in the race with chances of 44.3% and 48.6%, respectively, while Ceará’s chances are at 18.7%.

With only a few rounds remaining in the season, Santos’ return to Série A seems highly likely, but the team will need to maintain their performance to secure their spot in Brazil’s top football division.
