Arsenal defeated 5-2 over West Ham on Saturday in an exciting match where all seven goals were scored before the break.

The Gunners raced to a 4-0 lead in just 36 minutes with goals from Gabriel, Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard, and Kai Havertz.

After Havertz’s goal, many West Ham fans left the stadium, but they missed goals from Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson.

Arsenal added another goal in stoppage time at the end of the first half, with Bukayo Saka scoring the second penalty of the game. The first penalty had been converted by Odegaard earlier.

West Ham

Lucas Fabianski – Rating: 5

Fabianski let in five goals before halftime, but there wasn’t much he could do about most of them. He got a yellow card and punched Gabriel in the head during Arsenal’s second penalty, although he might feel unlucky considering what other goalkeepers get away with. Despite the scoreline, he made a few good saves.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Rating: 6

Wan-Bissaka waited a long time to score for West Ham, but he got his second goal here. He was the most successful tackler on the pitch and made several great runs into the box. His performance earned him a funny nickname from Jamie Redknapp: “Aaron Wan-BisSalah.”

Jean-Clair Todibo – Rating: 5

Todibo played through an injury but struggled to handle the quick movements of Arsenal’s attackers. His performance summed up the inconsistency of West Ham, especially in defence.

Max Kilman – Rating: 4.5

Kilman had a rough game. The £40 million summer signing was caught out by a long pass from Trossard, which led to Arsenal’s fourth goal. He slipped trying to clear the ball, allowing Havertz to score.

Emerson – Rating: 5.5

Emerson scored a brilliant free-kick that gave some hope to the West Ham fans who stayed in their seats. It was a rare bright moment in an otherwise tough game.

Tomas Soucek – Rating: 5

Soucek had a great performance against Newcastle but couldn’t replicate that here. He missed a header late in the game that would have given West Ham a chance.

Lucas Paqueta – Rating: 5

Paqueta had a mixed game. He gave away a penalty with a clumsy foul on Saka and lost possession, leading to another Arsenal goal. However, his quick feet won a free-kick that led to Emerson’s goal.

Carlos Soler – Rating: 6.5

Soler had a solid game. He made a brilliant pass to set up Wan-Bissaka for West Ham’s first goal, and once again, he was one of the best players in a struggling midfield.

Crysencio Summerville – Rating: 5.5

Summerville scored early in the match, but the goal was ruled offside. He was always looking for a way to make an impact, but it was surprising when he was subbed off at halftime with the score at 5-2.

Jarrod Bowen – Rating: 5

Bowen, usually a key player for West Ham, had a quiet night. He had a few shots, but none were on target, and he made very few passes throughout the game.

Michail Antonio – Rating: 5

Antonio struggled against Arsenal’s set-pieces and was at fault for losing track of Gabriel for the opening goal. He had little influence on the game and was substituted in the second half.

Substitutes:

Edson Alvarez (45 min) – Rating: 6

Alvarez came on after the break but didn’t manage to turn things around for West Ham.

Vladimir Coufal (65 min) – Rating: 5

Coufal was lucky not to get a more severe punishment for a late tackle on Kiwior. He didn’t make much of an impact after coming on.

Danny Ings (65 min) – Rating: 6

Ings worked hard, as always, but had very little to feed on when he came on in the second half.

Rodriguez (78 min) – N/A

Rodriguez didn’t have enough time to make an impact.

Irving (78 min) – N/A

Irving didn’t play long enough to be rated.

Arsenal

David Raya – Rating: 6.5

Raya couldn’t do much about Emerson’s free-kick, which would have been hard to stop for any goalkeeper. He also played some good passes to get the ball forward.

Jurrien Timber – Rating: 7

Timber was solid throughout the game, both in defense and attack. He made useful runs forward while also staying strong in defense.

William Saliba – Rating: 7

Saliba won’t be happy about conceding two goals, but he wasn’t responsible for either of them. He had a steady performance.

Gabriel – Rating: 8.5

Gabriel scored from a corner and won a penalty after being hit by Fabianski’s punch while trying to clear another corner. He had an excellent game.

Riccardo Calafiori – Rating: 6

Calafiori was caught out of position for Wan-Bissaka’s goal. He had to go off with an injury.

Martin Odegaard – Rating: 8.5

Odegaard was brilliant once again. His connection with Saka on the right wing was perfect, and he made a beautiful pass to set up Trossard’s goal. He also scored from the penalty spot.

Declan Rice – Rating: 7

Rice worked hard, especially as the game went on, covering for Jorginho. He made some good tackles and passes.

Jorginho – Rating: 6.5

Jorginho had some moments of vulnerability, particularly during transitions, but he did well when Arsenal were in control.

Bukayo Saka – Rating: 8.5

Saka was involved in three of Arsenal’s goals. He took part in Gabriel’s goal from a corner, assisted Trossard’s tap-in, and scored a penalty. A top performance.

Kai Havertz – Rating: 7

Havertz played well, providing a strong focal point up front and later dropping into midfield. He took his chance well to score against Fabianski.

Leandro Trossard – Rating: 7

Trossard scored a simple tap-in and also provided an assist. He had some great runs out wide and was solid overall.

Manager: Mikel Arteta – Rating: 7

Arteta led the team to another big win after their 5-1 victory. He has managed two excellent performances in a row.
