Roma and Wolfsburg met in the group stage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League in the 2022/23 season, with Roma drawing 1-1 with Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg is a formidable opponent. It has won two consecutive UEFA Women’s Champions League titles in 2013 and 2014. However, Roma withstood this pressure and won with their resilient defence.
The key players in Roma vs Wolfsburg were Manuela Giugliano and Camelia Ceasar. Captain Manuela Giugliano took the lead with a penalty in the 14th minute to boost the odds of victory. Camelia Ceasar’s performance as goalkeeper was also commendable. The goalkeeper made several good saves as Wolfsburg tried to equalise.
Chelsea Claims Third Straight Home Victory
Chelsea won their third consecutive home match.
It wasn’t an easy win. Sjoeke Nüsken‘s header was blocked to give Real Madrid an early lead. The midfielder then committed a foul and Guro Retten scored from the penalty spot to extend the lead. A beautiful shot from Alba Redondo brought Real Madrid back into the match, but Maira Ramirez restored the home side’s two-goal advantage shortly after the restart. That played a decisive role as Las Blancas substitute Linda Caicedo made it 3-2 before Chelsea held on to their lead.
Twente Win Their Debut
Both teams are making their debut in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage. Celtic is the first Scottish team to reach the group stage.
Twente won the match between the two debuting teams. The Twente dominated in Hamilton. Kelly van Doren scored in both halves. The midfielder lobbed Kelsey Daugherty from the edge of the box. Later, she scored again from close range to seal the win.
