Women’s 800-Meter Final
The women’s 800-meter final was held on August 5 which was definitely a fierce and tough race for every player on the runway.
Let’s take a look at who’s in this game.
Mary Moraa, born on 15 June 2000, this young runner is already a seasoned athlete. She is the first American woman to win 800m and the Kenyan record holder for 400 meters. In the game that happened yesterday, she fiercely competed against the champion but ultimately fell short, winning her bronze medal in 1:57.42 but losing her dream to become the second Kenyan to own the women’s 800m Olympics title.
Another athlete who caught our attention is Tsige Duguma. She is an excellent player from Ethiopia. Previously, she won the gold medal in the women’s 800 meters at the 2024 World Indoor Athletics Championships. In yesterday’s race, she ran in second place in 1:57.1 winning the silver medal, also the first Olympic medal for Ethiopia.
The two women players mentioned above are fabulous but they still regrettably lost to the British competitor Keely Hodgkinson. Keely Hodgkinson has a good track record before. She is the 2022 and 2023 world 800m champion. Therefore, her winning the championship was to be expected. She indeed lived up to expectations and won the championship.
Women’s 5,000-meter final
Beatrice Chebet, Faith Kipyegon, and Sifan Hassan respectively won the gold, silver, and bronze medal on Monday.
For Beatrice Chebet, this is the first Olympic medal she won for her country Kenya. She is an exceptional long-distance runner. She broke the record of 29 minutes in the 10,000 meters before, creating history and being recognized “smiling assassin“ by her fans.
Another excellent runner, Faith Kipyegon, which she has experienced definitely qualifies as theatre. The referee initially disqualified her, but after she appealed, she regained her medal two hours later.
Discus Final
Valarie Allman, an American discus thrower, won gold in the discus competition for the second time in a row at the Olympics, marking a first for the country. She threw a far greater distance yesterday, 69.50 meters than she did the last time she won a gold medal in Tokyo in 2021.
Conclusion
The Track and Field are always full of excitement and drama. After seeing the thrilling games that Keely Hodgkinson, Beatrice Chebet, and Valarie Allman have brought to us, let’s look forward to the games in the future.
