Paris Paralympics 2024: Day 4 Highlights – India Shines with Medals, China Takes the Lead (September 1, 2024)

The Paris 2024 Paralympics is in full swing, and Day 4 brought more thrilling moments and impressive performances. This year’s event, running from August 29 to September 8, has gathered 4,400 athletes from across the globe, competing in 549 events spanning 22 different sports.

India continued to make its mark on the Paralympics stage. Nishad Kumar added to the country’s medal tally with a silver in the men’s high jump T47 final, marking India’s seventh medal in the competition. Earlier in the day, Preethi Pal brought home a bronze in the women’s 200m T35 event, showcasing her determination and grit.

India’s success story at these Games didn’t start today. Rubina Francis had already secured a bronze in the P2 Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event, while Avani Lekhara kicked off India’s medal count with a gold in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 category. Mona Agarwal also contributed to the tally with a bronze in the same event. Manish Narwal added a silver in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event, ensuring India’s presence on the podium multiple times.

As for the overall standings, China is clearly dominating, sitting comfortably at the top with 67 medals, including 30 golds. Their athletes have consistently performed at the highest level, leading them to this commanding position. Great Britain and the USA follow behind, holding second and third places with 43 and 26 medals, respectively.

This edition of the Paralympics in Paris is proving to be a memorable one, not just for the athletes but for the fans worldwide who are watching these incredible stories unfold. With several days of competition still ahead, there’s plenty more to look forward to as these athletes continue to push the boundaries and inspire us all.
