Osorio Advances in Guadalajara; Gadecki Reaches First WTA Semifinal

In a remarkable feat on Friday, Camila Osorio from Colombia secured her spot in the semifinals of the WTA 500 Guadalajara Open Akron by defeating Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova 7-6(6), 6-2. This victory not only propelled her into the next stage of the tournament but also made her the first Colombian player to reach the semifinals of a WTA 500 event. Currently ranked 80th in the world, Osorio is just two wins away from claiming her second title of the season, having won her second Bogotá championship in April.
The first set proved to be a challenging encounter for Osorio, who had to fend off Rakhimova’s aggressive play. Osorio saved a set point during the tiebreak and managed to edge out a win in a grueling 62-minute opening set. She carried that momentum into the second set, where she swiftly ended Rakhimova’s impressive run in Guadalajara. The Russian player had been on a seven-match winning streak, which included a WTA 125 title last week.
Osorio’s journey to the semifinals almost came to an abrupt end in the second round when she found herself 0-5 down in the final set against 7th seed Veronika Kudermetova.

Gadecki’s Breakthrough Continues

In the semifinals, Osorio will face Australia’s Olivia Gadecki, who also made headlines with her breakthrough performance. The 22-year-old qualifier defeated Italy’s Martina Trevisan 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, advancing to her first WTA semifinal. Ranked 152nd in the world, Gadecki had earlier stunned 11th-ranked Danielle Collins, marking her second win over a top 20 player.
Gadecki’s quarterfinal match against Trevisan was a hard-fought battle, lasting 1 hour and 48 minutes. The Australian continues to impress with her resilience and form, making her a formidable opponent for Osorio in the upcoming clash. With this victory, Gadecki has entered uncharted territory and will be eager to continue her journey toward her first WTA title.
As the tournament approaches its final stages, both Osorio and Gadecki have shown incredible determination and skill, making their upcoming match one to watch.
