Janet Street-Porter Faces Health Challenges but Remains Resilient

Recent Surgery and Ongoing Health Issues

Janet Street-Porter, a familiar face on TV, recently updated her fans about her health after undergoing hip surgery. In a heartfelt video from her hospital bed, the Janet Street-Porter reassured everyone that she was recovering well. She shared, “I had an MRI scan that showed no cushioning on my hip, and the doctors urged me to have the surgery quickly.” After the operation, she expressed her relief, admitting that moving around had become increasingly difficult. “I couldn’t even go up the stairs without taking it one step at a time,” she explained, also mentioning how the pain had affected her voice.

This surgery is just one in a series of health battles for Janet Street-Porter. In 2012, she dealt with shingles, which temporarily silenced her voice and kept her away from the Loose Women panel. “I mistook the rash for eczema, but it was shingles. I was stressed at work, which likely contributed,” she recalled. Since then, she has been a strong advocate for shingles vaccinations, encouraging others to get vaccinated, especially those over 65 or between 70 and 79.

Candid Reflections on Cancer and Mobility Issues

In 2020, Janet Street-Porter faced another significant health scare when she was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma. Initially mistaking a growth on her nose for a mosquito bite, she quickly opted for private surgery after receiving the diagnosis. “I didn’t want to wait on long NHS lists,” she said. This experience reinforced her belief in being vigilant about skin changes and encouraged her viewers to keep an eye on blemishes and moles.

After 13 years on Loose Women, she has had to take a leave of absence due to her struggles with walking. Now relying on a walker, she opened up about how her altered gait has impacted her life. “I’m turning in on myself,” she remarked, highlighting the emotional toll of losing mobility.

Despite her health struggles, Janet Street-Porter remains a spirited advocate for health awareness and outdoor living. Her decades-long career in journalism and television has made her a respected figure in the industry, earning her a CBE in 2016 for her contributions.
