Corinthians Falls 3-1 to São Paulo, Remains in Relegation Zone

In a heated clash, Corinthians suffered a 3-1 defeat against São Paulo, leaving them in the relegation zone of the Brazilian Championship thalia graves. Following the match, Emiliano Díaz, assistant coach and son of head coach Ramón Díaz, expressed his belief that the Corinthians team did not deserve to lose by such a margin. Despite the loss, he praised the team’s grit, noting that they continued to fight for a reduced scoreline, even playing with two fewer players.

Emiliano’s perspective stands in contrast to that of Ramón Díaz, who did not hold back in critiquing the quality of the classic rivalry, especially during the first half. “There’s nothing to say now. We can’t dwell on this. We lost 3-1, a result that doesn’t reflect the game. However, the team’s attitude during challenging moments was commendable,” Emiliano stated. He acknowledged the technical and tactical errors but emphasized the heart and dedication of the squad, which he believes represents the Corinthians well. “That’s what Corinthians needs. We were still competitive even with one less player and created opportunities. Football can be unpredictable: sometimes the deserving team doesn’t win,” he added.

Emiliano was also asked about the potential impact of rescheduling the return leg of the Copa do Brasil semifinals and the upcoming 30th round of the Brazilian Championship on the Corinthians’ campaign against relegation. “It complicates things with the sequence of games, especially in the league. Our only option is to keep working on improving the team. We are a very competitive squad and plan to continue this way. We won’t change our approach, as it has been working so far,” he reflected.
