The 2024 Paralympic Games will be held in Paris, from August 28 to September 8, following the Olympic Games. It will be the first time Paris hosts the Paralympic Games. The Arc de Triomphe already displayed the Paralympic emblem from June, emphasizing France’s dedication to this event.
Here are some remarkable athletes known for their sportsmanship.
Return of the Legendary Weightlifter
It will be the seventh time that Amalia Pérez participated in the Paralympic Games who are 51-year-old already.
This Mexican weightlifter has been in the sport for over twenty years and has won four Paralympic gold medals, making her one of Mexico’s most renowned Paralympic athletes. She proved that although she may not have agile legs, her powerful arms are second to none.
Despite being 51 years old, Amalia hasn’t slowed down and remains passionate about her weightlifting career.
“From my first Paralympics in Sydney in 2000, I have been waiting for God and my body to tell me when to stop, but that hasn’t come yet. So I’ll keep going,” Amalia said in an interview.
Sherif Osman, another celebrated icon of the Paralympics, is a male athlete from Egypt. Osman has taken part in the summer Paralympics four times, during this he has got three gold medals and one silver medal. Most importantly, he has won the record three times and is now the record holder in the 59kg.
Chances are, Osman who is 41 now is at his prime. After being awarded the gold medal in the 2016 Rio Paralympics, he believes he hasn’t reached the finish line. He sought to attend six Paralympic events and get six gold medals. The confidence level of this man is through the roof; he has the impression that he has the potential to do anything.
We eagerly await their outstanding performances at the upcoming 2024 Paralympic Games.
Local Badminton Star
A badminton player from France, Lucas Mazur, participated for France in the badminton event at the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games and emerged the winner in the singles and mixed doubles with a silver medal in men’s doubles. Now, Mazur is one of the world’s leading para-badminton athletes; he has been practicing the sport for 15 years since school and is 26 now which means there is a long way ahead of him.
Participating in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and winning the championship totally revolutionized his life, he got the pride that he deserved, however, it came with the pressure that followed the win too.
“I feel proud to host the Games in my country,” Mazur said in an interview, “But it also means a lot of pressure and expectations from everyone around me.”
Whatever, Mazur is still young and has plenty of time to showcase his talent on the badminton court. As a world champion, we believe he can perform consistently and continue to glory.
Let’s look forward to these athletes’ incredible performances in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.
