Grant Fisher, who has had an extraordinary 2024 season, is calling it a day for the year. After starting strong with an indoor tour and continuing his impressive run outdoors, he has decided to end his season after the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia.
In Silesia, Fisher faced a tough 3000m race, finishing 15th with a time of 7:49.79. Jakob Ingebrigtsen stole the spotlight, smashing the world record with a remarkable 7:17.55. The Ethiopian runners Berihu Aregawi and Yomif Kejelcha followed with times of 7:21.28 and 7:28.44, respectively.
The race in Silesia was Fisher’s first competition since the Olympics. In a unique Instagram post, he announced the end of his 2024 season with a photo of Simon Cowell holding a beer, making the moment light-hearted and memorable.
Grant’s 2024 journey began with a notable second-place finish in the two-mile indoor race at the Millrose Games. He followed this with a victory in the 5000m at the Boston University DMR Challenge before shifting his focus to the outdoor season. He started strong there too, winning the 10,000m at the TEN with a time of 26:52.04, and placed fifth in the 5000m at both the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix and the USATF New York City Grand Prix.
At the U.S. Olympic Trials, Fisher showcased his talent by winning the 10,000m in 27:49.47 and finishing third in the 5000m with a time of 13:24.78. His performance at the Paris Olympics was outstanding, where he became the first American to win medals in both the 5000m and 10,000m.
Reflecting on his recent race, Fisher described the 3000m at Silesia as “pretty rough.” He struggled to keep up with the leaders and ended up in 15th place. Despite this, the 27-year-old is pleased with his overall achievements, especially his Olympic success.
Fisher is now taking a break to rest and recover, gearing up for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. It’s been a remarkable year for him, and he deserves this time off before diving back into training.
