Four ATP Players Withdraw from Cincinnati Open

tennis

The Cincinnati Open, the second Masters-1000 event leading up to the US Open, boasts a strong ATP entry list. Among the notable players set to compete are Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz and 2021 US Open winner Daniil Medvedev. However, four prominent ATP players have withdrawn from the tournament. This article details the names of the players who have pulled out and introduces their replacements in the draw.

Novak Djokovic, a major name in tennis, is among those who have withdrawn. After recently securing his first Olympic gold medal, Djokovic opted out of the National Bank Open that followed immediately. Although fans hoped to see him defend his Cincinnati title, he will now prepare for the US Open without participating in any warm-up events.

Australian Alex de Minaur has also withdrawn due to an ongoing hip injury. This injury, which occurred during his round-of-16 match at Wimbledon against Arthur Fils, had already forced him to miss his quarterfinal match against Djokovic and subsequently ruled him out of the Olympics and the National Bank Open. Unfortunately, it has also kept him from competing in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Open Draw Adjustments: Bublik and Norrie Withdraw from Tournament

Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik is another player who has withdrawn, though no official reason for his decision has been provided. Bublik lost in the opening round of the National Bank Open to Ben Shelton, but there were no apparent physical issues during that match.

Cameron Norrie, the former British No. 1, is the final player to withdraw. Norrie picked up an injury prior to his scheduled match against Tallon Griekspoor at the Olympics. This injury also prevented him from competing in the National Bank Open and will now keep him out of the Cincinnati tournament as well.

The withdrawals have led to replacements in the draw, ensuring that the Cincinnati Open remains a highly competitive event despite the absence of these top players.
