Dominating Victory Against Everton in Tottenham Hotspur’s First Home Game

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur’s first home match of the season was a fantastic 4-0 win over Everton, and it felt great to see the team shine at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Yves Bissouma finally got on the scoresheet for Tottenham Hotspur, and Cristian Romero celebrated his 100th appearance with a goal, making it a memorable day.

It was the perfect way for Tottenham Hotspur to kick off their home campaign in the Premier League. Bissouma, who missed last week’s game against Leicester City, made a strong return by scoring the opening goal. Heung-Min Son took advantage of a mistake by Jordan Pickford to double Tottenham Hotspur’s lead before halftime.

Romero marked his special milestone with a well-timed header, and Son completed the scoring with a fourth goal after a brilliant run from Micky van de Ven. Tottenham Hotspur also saw a promising debut from Wilson Odobert, who joined the team from Burnley recently.

Just like in their previous match at King Power Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur started strong, creating plenty of chances. This time, they secured a crucial two-goal lead by halftime. Son played a clever ball over the top for Romero, who controlled it but shot straight at Pickford. Son’s attempted curler was deflected by Dwight McNeil, and Pickford had to scramble to save it.

Romero later found James Maddison on the edge of the area, but Pickford was quick to close down his shot. Maddison then crossed to Brennan Johnson, whose header went just wide. Tottenham Hotspur finally broke the deadlock in the 14th minute when Bissouma unleashed a powerful strike from 20 yards, hitting the crossbar before going in. It was his first goal for Spurs on his 57th appearance.

Everton, who had lost 3-0 to Brighton in their previous match, nearly equalized when Jack Harrison missed a volley at the back post. Instead, after twenty-five minutes, Tottenham Hotspur had quadrupled their lead. Son capitalized on a mistake from Pickford, who took a casual touch and allowed Son to steal the ball and score into an empty net.

Everton was dangerous from set pieces, with Tarkowski coming close twice with headers from corners. Maddison also had to clear a shot off the line from Abdoulaye Doucoure.

In the second half, Guglielmo Vicario made a crucial save to deny Jesper Lindstrom, and shortly after, Maddison’s free-kick just missed. Tottenham Hotspur added their third goal in the 71st minute when Maddison’s corner was met by Romero’s header, hitting the crossbar again.

Six minutes later, Van de Ven intercepted a pass and made a stunning 80-yard run before setting up Son, who calmly slotted the ball between Pickford’s legs for Tottenham Hotspur’s fourth goal. It was a perfect end to a fantastic afternoon at N17.

Ange Postecoglou made three changes from the Leicester match. Odobert made his debut, replacing the injured Dominic Solanke, while Bissouma and Kulusevski came in for Rodrigo Bentancur (concussion protocol) and Pape Matar Sarr. Fraser Forster was also back on the bench after recovering from injury.
