BYU Basketball: Why Big 12 Analysts Are Calling Provo’s Recruiting Frenzy “Crazy”

BYU Cougars men’s basketball made headlines on Wednesday with a massive recruiting win, securing the commitment of Serbian big man Mihailo Boskovic. Additionally, the program hosted visits from top prospects AJ Dybantsa, Xavion Staton, and Caleb Wilson, further fueling excitement around the team’s future.

Big 12 basketball expert and ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla took notice, offering high praise for BYU. “I don’t know how @BYUMBB will perform, but they are a wild card in the best league in the country this year,” Fraschilla tweeted. Having spent a decade as a college head coach, Fraschilla now covers Big 12 and international basketball, making him well-versed in the challenges BYU will face. He added, “Kansas, Houston, Baylor, and Iowa State will be top-10 teams this season, but what’s happening in Provo is crazy.”

While Boskovic is the only recruit from this group set to join the Cougars for the upcoming 2024-25 season, Dybantsa, Staton, and Wilson are expected to make their college debuts in 2025-26. Fraschilla’s comments, however, underscore BYU’s growing reputation in the recruitment game, with the Cougars securing talented players who will contribute to the team’s long-term success.

BYU head coach Kevin Young, who took the reins in April, has already assembled a solid roster for the 2024-25 season. Alongside Boskovic, the team will feature new additions such as Cannon Kacheris, Elijah Crawford, Yegor Demin, Keita Mawashiro, and Brody Kozlowski. Key returning players like Dawson Baker, Dallin Hall, Trevin Knell, and Fousseyni Traore will add veteran presence, making BYU a team to watch in the competitive Big 12.

With high-profile recruits and an impressive mix of new and returning talent, BYU basketball appears poised to make waves in the Big 12, setting the stage for an exciting future in Provo.
