On last Sunday, Bayern Munich secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over VfL Wolfsburg, marking a successful start for their new head coach, Vincent Kompany.
The game kicked off with Wolfsburg showing early promise, but it was Bayern who seized the advantage. Sacha Boey’s impressive run down the right wing set up Jamal Musiala, who calmly finished to give Bayern the lead.
However, Bayern’s second-half performance was rocky. Tiago Tomas was fouled by Boey inside the box, leading to a penalty that Lovro Majer converted effortlessly. Wolfsburg then turned up the pressure, and Majer scored again in the 55th minute with a neat finish from Patrick Wimmer’s assist.
Late-Game Drama
Just when it seemed like Wolfsburg might pull ahead, Bayern found their equalizer through an own goal by Jakub Kaminski. Then, in the 82nd minute, Serge Gnabry, with a crucial assist from Harry Kane, put Bayern back in front with a decisive strike.
Gnabry shared his thoughts on the game, saying, “We’re thrilled with the win. It’s a big boost for our morale and confidence. It was a tough match; we were caught off guard with the equalizer right after halftime, and then being down 2-1 made things even harder. But in the end, we got the win, and that’s what matters.”
Despite a number of chances created by Kane and new signing Michael Olise, Wolfsburg goalkeeper Kamil Grabara made several outstanding saves to keep his team in the game. Thomas Müller also made a significant impact, equaling a club record with his 709th competitive appearance for Bayern and helping to secure the victory after coming on as a substitute in the 65th minute.
Wolfsburg’s coach, Ralph Hasenhuettl, expressed pride in his team’s performance. “We’ve made great progress recently. Our challenge is to score that third goal because defending against Bayern is always tough. We gave our all in every challenge.”
The match demonstrated Bayern Munich’s resilience and marked a positive beginning for Kompany’s tenure, following last season’s disappointing finish.
