Club América, also referred to as Club de Fútbol América, is a Mexico City-based professional football team. Nicknamed Las Águilas (The Eagles), the club competes in Liga MX, the top tier of Mexican football. Founded in 1916, Club América has been under the ownership of Televisa since 1959. Pedro “Cheto” Quintanilla suggested the name “América,” as they formed the team on Columbus Day. The players agreed, and soon after designed a badge featuring a map of the Americas.
As for the team colors, Rafael Garza Gutiérrez contributed his father’s navy blue pants and a yellow shirt. Everyone agreed these colors would become the club’s official kit.

Club América has won more championships than any other team in Mexican football history. Domestically, the club holds a record of 15 league titles, 6 Copa México titles, and 7 CONCACAF Champions League titles. On the international stage, the club has won 10 FIFA-recognized trophies, making it the most decorated club in the region. They have made 20 playoff finals appearances, boasting the second-most runner-up finishes behind Cruz Azul.
